Texmaco pays dividends JAKARTA (JP): PT Texmaco Perkasa Engineering, a textile manufacturer, announced yesterday that it will pay dividends of Rp 50 per share (2.1 U.S. cents), with a dividend payout ratio of 45 percent. President Marimutu Ganesan said that Texmaco's net profits rose from Rp 19 billion in 1994 to Rp 27 billion last year, while its net sales increased from Rp 83 billion to Rp 168 billion.

PT Tri Polyta shares down from oversupply JAKARTA (JP): PT Tri Polyta Indonesia, the country's largest producer of polypropylene resins, yesterday listed 257.5 million shares on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) with a base share price of Rp 2,575 (US$1.09). A JSX director, Mas Achmad Daniri, said the base price was determined by last week's $12 closing price per American Depository Receipt (ADR) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). One ADR represents ten ordinary shares.

91 arrested for gambling JAKARTA (JP): Police will process 91 people, including 20 women, arrested during a raid on an illicit gambling den in Duta Merlin shopping center in Central Jakarta, Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna says. Iman said yesterday that they are still being interrogated. "Those who are found guilty will be sent to court. We cannot condone such a crime," he said. Any kind of gambling is illegal in Indonesia.

Five die in road accident
Five die in road accident BREBES, Central Java: After failing to overtake a car, a minibus crashed into an oncoming truck, killing all five people on board on Sunday, police said yesterday. Chief of Brebes police precinct Lt. Col. Adnan Jupri said the accident happened at about 9.30 a.m. Sunday. Three of the victims died in hospital a few hours after the accident. Adnan said the minibus driver was to blame for the accident because he had overtaken the car on a steep hill.

Profit source or public utility? As of Thursday last week, toll road fees in Jakarta were increased by an average of Rp 500. Those urban toll roads were built and are operated by the private-sector company PT Citra Marga Nusphala Persada and the state-owned PT Jasa Marga. Based on the principle that public roads are part of the public service provided by the government for the community, there is no reason for the government to entrust the building of toll roads to a private company.

Tosummit start making color picture tubes JAKARTA (JP): PT Tosummit Electronics Devices Indonesia, a Japanese joint venture company, started producing color picture tubes at the firm's plant in Bekasi, West Java. "The company will operate at its full capacity of 2.3 million units of color picture tubes in August," the firm said in a statement.
