Biannual aeronautical talk planned

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will hold a symposium on aeronautical science in conjunction with the planned Asia-Pacific Hi-Tech and Aerospace Show to be held biannually, beginning in 1998.

Chief coordinator of the second International Symposium on Aeronautical Science and Technology in Indonesia (ISASTI '96), Harijono Djojodihardjo, told reporters yesterday that both the aeronautical exhibition and symposium will be effective ways for promotion and marketing as well as exchanging experiences in the aviation industry worldwide.

While dedicating the Indonesia Air Show '96 and ISASTI '96 last Saturday, President Soeharto announced that future air shows would be held once every two years beginning in 1998. The show will be called the Asia-Pacific Hi-Tech and Aerospace Show.

"We will decide later whether we will continue to call the symposium ISASTI '96 or use another name," Harijono said.

He said that topics to be discussed at the symposium include configuration and design integration; aerodynamics; materials and structures; propulsion; performance, stability and control; system and subsystem technology; engineering, manufacturing and management; aircraft operation; navigation systems; and human factors.

ISASTI '96, opening yesterday at the Shangri-La Hotel, featured State Minister of Research and Technology B.J. Habibie as the keynote speaker. Speakers during the four-day event include Ron L. Bengelink and Paul E. Rubbert of the U.S.-based Boeing Co.; Ilham A. Habibie of the state-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN); R. Francis of Eurocopter of France; and Hiroshi Sato, Akira Yokohama and Y. Matsumoto of the Japanese Fujita Corp.'s Institute of Flow Research. (icn)
