Under a 2.19 billion peso (US$84.2 million) scheme covered by the AIJV program, Proton Pilipinas, a Philippine-Malaysian joint venture, will import completely-knocked-down Proton car units for local assembly.

The men were sentenced to four months in jail and fines of US$1,176, or an additional three months in jail, by the Malaysian Magistrate's Court. All the defendants, who ranged in age from 16 to 60, pleaded guilty. Police also confiscated more than $9,100, which was believed to have been used for bets.

100 stolen vehicles seized in Bogor JAKARTA (JP): Bogor police say they arrested 10 suspected car thieves and seized 100 stolen vehicles during the month of March. Mount Merapi active again YOGYAKARTA: Officials in charge of monitoring the activity of Mount Merapi said yesterday that the volcano spewed ashes for the first time in several months on Monday. They also observed the mountain gushing burning lava 23 times on Monday but recorded no tremors, which is a common sign of imminent eruption. NTT students hostel From Media Indonesia I am from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and am now studying in a private university in Jakarta. When I came in Jakarta in 1986 I was told that there was a students hostel in Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta. But since then I have never heard of any intellectual activities taking place in the hostel. Some time ago I happened to pass by the hostel. I was so surprised to see the poor condition of the building. Who is really responsible for its bad maintenance?
