Tangerang limits housing estates
JAKARTA (JP): The Tangerang Regency will restrict the issuance
of permits for the development of new housing complexes, claiming
that the current number of residential areas is sufficient.
Ena Karlina, spokesperson for the regency, was quoted by
Antara as saying yesterday that the Tangerang regency has issued
234 permits to date for residential developments covering 29,000
hectares.
Out of the 29,000 hectares of land, only 15 percent has so far
been developed, she said.
"The Tangerang administration will reconsider the permits
given to those developers that have not yet started their
projects in a bid to avoid delay," she said, quoting Regent H.
Saifullah AR at the Regional Legislative Council recently.
Commenting on the industrial development, Ena said that out of
the 4,500 hectares of land set aside by the regency for the
establishment of industrial estates, only 30 percent has been
utilized.
The Tangerang administration has temporarily frozen the
issuance of permits for the construction of new industries in the
regency in line with a circular from the Ministry of Industry,
declaring that the regency is closed to new factories.
"We are still waiting for further instruction from the central
government concerning the freezing of the issuance of the
industrial permits," she said. (31)
