Mount Merapi active again

YOGYAKARTA: Officials in charge of monitoring the activity of
Mount Merapi said yesterday that the volcano spewed ashes for the
first time in several months on Monday.

They also observed the mountain gushing burning lava 23 times
on Monday but recorded no tremors, which is a common sign of
imminent eruption.

The volcano erupted in November last year, when it killed
almost 60 people and displaced thousands of villagers residing at
at the foot of the mountain. (har/imn)
