European investments in Indonesia
European investments in Indonesia
Europeans, particularly Germans, are being called upon to pay greater attention to Asia, especially Indonesia. The countries of the Asia-Pacific region have grown to offer huge potentials for investment and trade as their economic systems get more and more integrated into the international market. That call was made by President Soeharto during the opening of the Hannover Fair last week.
Germany occupies a strategic place in Indonesia's foreign trade because it is the biggest market in the European Union as well as a gateway for Indonesian exports. According to the president, a new turn in the relationship of cooperation between the two countries could be realized by stepping up the economic activities of the European countries, particularly Germany, in Indonesia.
Indonesia's economic development goes hand in hand with its political development and the two complement each other. At present, we are expanding our institutions to protect human rights by such means as the introduction of pretrial procedures, an administrative court of justice and the National Commission on Human Rights.
