Flood kills six people in West Sumatra JAKARTA (JP): Six people have been killed in flashfloods that attacked Solok regency, West Sumatra, on Tuesday. Regent Nurmawan said the floods originated in overflowing rivers and tributaries that pass through the regency, Antara reported. Dozens of houses were swept away by the flood and hundreds others were inundated. Many hectares of ricefields have also been affected by the flooding, which hit the regency on Tuesday.

Dirty road The construction of the building by the Jakarta Metropolitan Administration in collaboration with PT Bakrie Investindo in Rasuna Said area, Kuningan, South Jakarta, is upsetting road users. The slow lane around the construction site becomes very dirty, as the trucks leaving and entering the complex spill earth they are carrying. The earth is scattered as far as Jl. Casablanca. On rainy days the road is very muddy. And on warm days the earth hardens, making the road quite bumpy.

Rubber prices increase SINGAPORE (AFP): Singapore rubber futures prices ended higher yesterday on quiet trading as most traders were still away on lunar new year holiday, dealers said. Turnover, led by the RSS 3 grade, fell to 3,400 tons from the 10,000 tons traded on Friday. The market was closed from Monday to Wednesday for the lunar new year. "Prices were generally higher in line with the stronger closing on the Japanese markets," a dealer said.

Non-smoking bus On Jan. 24, 1995 a friend and I traveled by bus from Yogyakarta to Denpasar. When we purchased the tickets the manager of the bus company assured us that the bus was air-conditioned and non-smoking. As we both have allergies to cigarette smoke a non-smoking mode of transportation is a necessity. We hadn't even left the bus station and people, including the three bus company employees, were smoking on the bus.
