JAKARTA (JP): The ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) has called upon their governments not to interfere with accounting and auditing processes.
In a statement sent by AFA Secretary General Placidus Sudibyo to The Jakarta Post yesterday, the organization also says that it is "cautions against the duplication of the accounting bodies' function to set professional and technical working standards."
AFA, which completed a council meeting last week in Brunei Darussalam, has 90,000 members. ASEAN groups Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines.
The organization also says that it is currently trying to harmonize accounting and auditing standards in the region to facilitate entry of global investments. (hdj)
