Robbers storm Philippine bank
MANILA (AFP): Gunmen wounded three people in a botched bank raid in the Philippine capital yesterday, press and radio reports said.
The six-member gang fled in three commandeered vehicles after scooping up cash from the tellers' counters after they failed to open the bank's vault.
It was the second bank robbery in a week in the Philippine capital. Injured in the raid were a bank teller, a private security guard and a customer. They were all admitted to hospital.
Superintendent Ricardo de Leon, head of Manila's central police district, said the robbers got only a "few thousand pesos" from the Philippine Commercial Industrial Bank branch, but a bank employee in a radio interview estimated the haul at two million pesos (US$83,000).
