Skeleton may be tourist's
DENPASAR, Bali: Skelital remains discovered recently by a farmer the slopes of Gunung Agung may be those of Vermer Carel Conraad, a Dutch tourist missing since 1987, police said yesterday.
Conraad was reported missing from his hotel in Tirtanaga, a tourist resort in eastern Bali, on Nov. 26, 1987.
Chief of the Karangasem police precinct, Lt. Col. Achmad Yahya, told Antara yesterday that the skeleton, some parts of which are missing, is being kept at his police station.
Found near the remains were a bag and a wallet containing stamps, he said. "We need time to identify the remains because no identity card was found," he said.
The police will try to contact Conraad's family in the Netherlands to ask for their help in identifying the remains, he said. (pan)
