Refinery fire put out CILACAP, West Java: Conflagration razing seven oil storage tanks over three days in the state-owned oil company Pertamina's refinery plant died out yesterday afternoon, an official said. Pertamina's director for refinery G.J. Atihuta told journalists the fire was "completely out" at 2:40 local time. Fire fighters then hosed the tanks to kill the heat. He said the gas emitted from the compound was not poisonous as people feared.

'RCTI' airs new series JAKARTA (JP): Starting from Nov. 5, 1995, RCTI will present the Japanese TV series Tokyo Wedding Story. The program will be screened on Sunday from 5:30 p.m to 6 p.m. The story, told in 46 episodes, is about science fiction comic writer Yoko Hara and her husband-to-be Masahiko Oshima, who works for an advertising agency. The series, a romantic comedy, is an adaptation of The Story of Getting Married, a best selling Japanese novel by Matoko Arai.

Indonesia imports rice from Taiwan Taipei (DPA): Indonesia has sent a freighter to Taiwan to pick up the 50,000 tons of rice it has bought from Taiwan to ease its rice shortage, it was disclosed Thursday. The Cambodian-registered Un Bong arrived in the Taichung Harbour on Sunday. Loading begins Saturday, the Central Trust of China (CTC) which handles exports, said. "The first shipment is 8,000 tons," a CTC official said asking not to be named.

Manila's rice import plan MANILA (UPI): The Philippines plans to spend 12.5 billion pesos (US$483 million) to solve a major rice shortage that has caused inflation to soar to its highest level in four years. The Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, a special group formed by President Ramos to solve the crisis that has more than doubled the price of the crop, proposed the money be given to government agencies directly involved in the problem.

A classic example appears is the article in The Jakarta Post titled "Communists behind protests" on Thursday, Oct. 26, 1995 (page 2, column 9). No reference was made to communists in the article, which was based on an unsubstantiated comment. It appears that any opposition or protest against the status quo is put down to such groups.
