'Republika, 'Kompas' win

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta-based Kompas and Republika morning dailies have been declared the best in covering the Istiqlal Festival II.

The organizing committee announced on Thursday that Republika was awarded for the most articles on the festival, while Kompas was praised for its features written by reporters Taufik Ikram Jamil/Kenedy Nurhan entitled Hafidz Dasuki: Ketua 'Pentashih' Al Qur'an Mushaf Istiqlal.

The writers won Rp 500,000 from the committee.

The organizing committee selected from articles published between Oct. 16 and Oct. 21.

Wiwoho, the committee spokesman, said that the competition was meant to encourage journalists to write more articles on the religious event. (sur)
