Moeliono gets honorary degree
JAKARTA: Professor Anton M. Moeliono, one of Indonesia's linguists, will be conferred with an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Melbourne next week.
In a statement made available to The Jakarta Post yesterday, the university said that Moeliono has played a major role in Indonesia's national language policy and development of the Indonesian language.
Professor of linguistics at the University of Indonesia from 1982 to 1993, Moeliono has, even after retirement, continued to lecture there.
The citation to be read at the special conferring of degrees ceremony describes him as a notable exponent of the internationalization of education -- pioneering the teaching of Indonesian to foreign students and working closely with foreign institutions on major educational projects. (pan)
