Deadline for voters JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta residents who have not registered to vote have until July 15 to do so. Bagus Suharyono, secretary of the Jakarta electoral committee said yesterday that residents should use their right to vote properly. "We want them to enroll before the deadline," he said. When I got back to the car later in the afternoon, I was surprised to find the car door unlocked and the parking ticket gone. The security guard then approached me. He said all the car's doors were not locked. He said he had tried to lock them but failed. He therefore kept the parking ticket and kept a watch on the car.

Dogs may be euthanized PALU, Central Sulawesi: The husbandry offices of Donggala and Palu regencies will put to sleep a total of 12,980 dogs in a bid to control the spread of rabies, Antara reported yesterday. A Donggala official, Napsi Sunusi, said in Palu yesterday that another 30,287 dogs will be vaccinated against the disease. The disease kills, on average, 60 people every year, he said.

The Association of Santi Rama Deaf Alumni (IKASA) would like to express our concern over the government's plan to dub all foreign programs, including those in English on all TV stations, as a substitute for subtitles. The policy, to be implemented next August, will surely deny the deaf their right to obtain information and to enjoy entertainment. The dubbing ruling is obviously a discriminatory act in its nature.

PT Indocement pays dividends JAKARTA (JP): Shareholders of PT Indocement Tunggal Perkasa, a major cement producer, yesterday approved management's proposals on dividend payment and share division. The company said in a statement that it will pay final dividends of Rp 120 (5.12 U.S. cents). The total dividend for 1995 is Rp 160 because the company paid an interim Rp 40 dividend last September. Total dividends will amount to Rp 193.2 billion or 40.6 percent of the company's 1995 net profit.

67 percent of vehicles fail emission test JAKARTA (JP): More than half of the 1,307 vehicles randomly selected for the recent emission tests conducted by the city administration failed the test, an official says. Korea, RI to sign deal SEOUL (Reuter): South Korea's defense ministry said yesterday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian government to trade military equipment. A ministry statement said that under the initial agreement reached in Jakarta, South Korea would purchase 10 CN-235 transport planes from Indonesia for its air force from 1997 to the early 2000s. Indonesia in turn would import about US$100 million worth of tanks and military trucks, from South Korea.
