The US dollar continues to hold strong against the Indonesian rupiah at around Rp 17,300, amid ongoing selling pressure in the domestic capital market despite a slight 0.60% gain in the JCI index to 6,998 at the opening on Monday, 4 May 2026. FX Analyst Elvan Chandra Widyatama from CNBC Indonesia Research attributes this to a combination of internal factors, such as concerns over the state budget and fiscal conditions impacted by the Middle East conflict, and external sentiments including uncertainties from the war and a downgrade in Indonesia's credit rating by rating agencies. The analysis highlights the broader implications for the domestic market's volatility and the need for investors to monitor geopolitical risks closely.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives Commission X is committed
to further honouring the teaching profession through the Bill on
Amendments to Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System
(RUU Sisdiknas).

Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives,
Kurniasih Mufidayati, stated that the teaching profession will be
honoured on par with other professions, such as doctors, accountants, or
engineers. This, she said, is a logical consequence of categorising
teachers as a profession.

“Certainly, if it is already a profession, their welfare must be
improved,” said Kurniasih, as per a statement received in Jakarta on
Monday.

She emphasised that teaching is a noble profession that forms the
foundation for the emergence of other professions. Therefore, honouring
teachers through the RUU Sisdiknas is an inevitability as a form of
appreciation for educators.

In the context of current issues, Kurniasih highlighted the ongoing
differences in perceptions regarding the welfare and protection of the
teaching profession.

She said that to be recognised as a teacher, it consequently requires
professional recognition proven by an educator’s certificate. However,
many teachers are still in the process or have not yet obtained
certification.

In addition, she hopes that in the future there will no longer be
categories of government employees with work agreements (PPPK) that are
part-time or honorary PPPK, which have so far been confusing and
detrimental to teachers.

According to her, the too many and complicated categories of teachers
need to be streamlined to make them clearer and not disadvantage
educators.

“I hope that later there will be no more part-time PPPK, honorary
PPPK. We are also confused by that, there are so many categories,
clusters. Too many,” said Kurniasih.

In addition, she also hopes that the article on teachers as a
profession will not be removed in the discussion of the RUU Sisdiknas
until the enactment stage.

“We have already accommodated that, insyaallah,” she said.

Kurniasih added that the RUU Sisdiknas will regulate the National
Education Development Master Plan (RIP). This is included so that
education policies do not change with every change of minister.

“So that whoever the minister is, if there is any adjustment, it
remains based on this RIP,” she explained.

Through the RIP, the House of Representatives hopes that the
direction of education becomes clearer and more sustainable, not
dependent on the personal policies of the current minister. In this way,
the direction of national education development is more stable and
measurable in the long term.

The RUU Sisdiknas is currently in the drafting stage by Commission X
of the House of Representatives. This bill is included in the list of
the 2026 priority national legislative programme (prolegnas).

JAKARTA – The Composite Stock Price Index (JCI) began trading in
positive territory on Monday (4/5/2026), after experiencing pressure at
the end of the previous week. At the market open, the JCI rose 32.11
points or 0.46% to the level of 6,988.91. This strengthening was
accompanied by the majority of stocks, with 303 stocks rising, 102
falling, and 288 others stagnant. The morning trading value was recorded
at Rp 596 billion with a trading volume of 6.47 billion shares in 63,706
transactions. Meanwhile, market capitalisation stood at Rp 12,495
trillion. In line with the JCI, the benchmark LQ45 stock index also
moved higher. This index strengthened by 2.22 points or 0.33% to 671.56.
Although it opened higher, analysts predict that the JCI’s movement
today still has the potential to face pressure. This follows a 2.03%
decline in the index to 6,956.804 on Thursday last week. MNC Sekuritas
technical analyst Herditya Wicaksana said that selling pressure still
dominates the JCI’s direction. Market participants are currently tending
to wait for the release of domestic economic data, particularly
inflation and the trade balance. Capital market observer and Founder of
Republik Investor Hendra Wardana predicts that the JCI support level is
in the range of 6,850-6,900. Meanwhile, resistance is in the range of
7,050-7,300. According to him, the opportunity for strengthening towards
the 7,100 area remains open, provided that global sentiment remains
positive, especially regarding geopolitical developments in the Middle
East. However, risks remain if oil prices rise again or the US dollar
strengthens sharply. Such conditions could push the JCI back to test
levels below 6,900. In recent years, the JCI’s movement in May has
tended to move sideways to limited weakening, especially when domestic
catalysts are scarce. Nevertheless, short-term rebound opportunities
remain open, although a solid upward trend has not yet formed. Sector
rotation is also starting to appear along with the decline in oil
prices. Energy sector stocks are potentially facing normalisation, while
sectors sensitive to inflation and interest rates such as banking,
consumer, and property are beginning to receive positive sentiment.

President Prabowo Subianto has issued a decree capping ride-hailing platforms' commissions at 8% of fares, increasing drivers' share to 92%, in response to longstanding protests for better pay and conditions. This populist measure, announced on May Day, aims to boost driver incomes amid post-pandemic declines but raises concerns from analysts about potential reductions in platform investments, discounts, and overall market sustainability. Accompanying pledges include extended mortgage tenures, daycare facilities, and health insurance for drivers, alongside vows to reclaim unpermitted land, highlighting the government's focus on worker welfare in Indonesia's gig economy.

Indonesian president’s May Day decree promises bigger driver share
but raises market sustainability concerns.

President Prabowo Subianto has ordered ride-hailing platforms like
Gojek and Grab to sharply cut their commissions, delighting drivers who
expect higher take-home pay while analysts warn of possible fallout for
jobs, discounts and investment.

Commission Limit Announcement

From May 1, platforms may keep no more than 8 per cent of fares,
compared with previous caps around 20 per cent, with Prabowo declaring
that the minimum split for drivers has shifted from 80 per cent to 92
per cent. Drivers like 25 year old Grab partner Renaldi Satriansyah and
37 year old Gojek veteran Muhammad Surya Wirawan say the change should
lift regular income by more than 10 per cent after years of post
pandemic earnings decline.

Drivers’ Longstanding Frustration

The decree follows repeated protests and petitions by driver unions
across Indonesian cities, who have long demanded lower platform fees,
better working conditions and formal worker status to access state
benefits. Speaking before tens of thousands at Jakarta’s National
Monument on May Day, Prabowo said commissions must fall below 10 per
cent and warned that any company unwilling to follow the rules should
not operate in Indonesia.

Broader Populist Measures

Alongside the commission cap, Prabowo pledged to extend mortgage
tenures to 40 years at subsidised interest rates around 5 per cent, far
below typical 11 to 13 per cent rates, and promised daycare facilities
for labourers and health insurance for ride hailing drivers. He also
vowed to reclaim millions of hectares of plantations and mining sites he
said were opened without permits, framing these land seizures as a move
to return stolen natural wealth to the people.

Sustainability And Market Risks

Public policy experts caution that shrinking platform margins could
backfire if firms cut promotional incentives, reduce investment or scale
back operations, leaving drivers with a larger share of a smaller
market. One analyst with government ties argued that regulating revenue
splits without fully understanding demand dynamics is risky, warning
that trip volumes, discounts and consumer demand might fall, eroding the
very incomes the policy aims to protect.

Platform Responses And Next Steps

GoTo chief executive Hans Patuwo said his company would comply with
Presidential Decree No. 27 2026 and is reviewing its implications to
keep serving drivers and consumers, while Grab Indonesia chief executive
Neneng Goenadi pledged to work with the government so that new rules
protect drivers while preserving affordability and industry
sustainability. How platforms adjust fares, incentives and service
levels in the coming months will determine whether the 92 per cent
driver share translates into durable gains or short lived relief.

Indonesia’s new ride hailing commission cap captures a powerful May
Day message that the state is siding with working class drivers, but it
also tests how far governments can push platform economics without
undermining jobs and service quality. For Indonesians, the policy’s
success will hinge on careful follow up, data driven reviews and open
dialogue with drivers and firms; for Singaporeans, the move offers a
case study in managing gig economy fairness and investor confidence
across a shared regional digital market.

Sources: Straits Times (2026) , The Jakarta Post (2026)

Keywords: Commission Cap, Gojek Drivers, Grab Indonesia, Presidential
Decree 27 2026, Driver Income
",

Transportation expert Yayat Supriatna argues that while a double-double track (DDT) system could enhance capacity, its urgency depends on travel demand, and prioritising the resolution of at-grade crossings and efficient scheduling on existing tracks would be more practical. He highlights potential inefficiencies, fiscal implications including Track Access Charges and maintenance funding, land acquisition challenges, and the need for station upgrades before pursuing costly expansions funded partly by the state budget and PT KAI investments.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - That night, Monday (27/4/2026), turned tense.
The long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Commuter Line heading
to Cikarang collided on the East Bekasi line in Bekasi. The locomotive
appeared to plough into the rear women’s carriage of the Commuter Line.
The atmosphere turned chaotic, with warning sirens blaring, accompanied
by cries and frantic conversations among passengers. Shortly afterwards,
the noise grew louder with the arrival of ambulances, medical personnel,
the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and elements of the
TNI/Police who worked to evacuate trapped victims. The concept is seen
as a solution to prevent similar accidents from recurring. But is it
necessary? Transportation observer and lecturer in the Urban and
Regional Planning programme at Trisakti University, Yayat Supriatna,
stated that the urgency of building a double-double track would greatly
depend on the level of rail travel demand. The denser the number of
train journeys, the higher the urgency. According to him, the root
problem that needs to be addressed is the at-grade crossings that do not
comply with regulations. “I’m tired of talking about at-grade crossings,
why? Because if the railway is made into a double-double track, it could
cause endless traffic jams for road users. Look at Bekasi Station,
trains pass every 2-3 minutes, causing long queues of traffic. What if
the double-double track is already built?” Yayat said when contacted by
Kompas.com on Thursday (30/4/2026). Yayat believes that building DDT
would risk inefficiency if the existing (double track) line can still
accommodate train frequency through schedule management and signalling.
As is known, PT KAI (Persero) is required to pay Track Access Charge
(TAC) to the government because the rails and several facilities are
state-owned. At the same time, the government also allocates
Infrastructure Maintenance and Operation (IMO) funds to finance the
maintenance of facilities including rail maintenance, bridges, signals,
and so on. This reciprocal relationship shows that building new lines
like DDT is not just about construction, but also long-term fiscal
consequences. “So, in my view, if the double-double track is to be
built, it must first be coordinated with the handling of at-grade
crossings,” Yayat explained. Moreover, there is a need to reorganise
stations to accommodate the additional tracks and various permits that
accompany it. “If the double-double track is built, then the stations
will need to be upgraded again. Not to mention the unresolved land
acquisition issues. Actually, the problem with wanting to build double
track sometimes has many obstacles, like incomplete land acquisition
that causes problems,” Yayat added. This is because the construction
budget is not entirely covered by the state budget, but also by
investments from KAI. In the future, the Ministry of Transportation will
also hand over the management of facilities to PT KAI.
",

This blockade has drastically reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, impacting global energy supplies and forcing Iran to cut oil production, with experts estimating it could sustain exports for only two to three months using existing stockpiles before facing permanent damage. While Iran appears resilient in the short term, prolonged measures risk broader geopolitical fallout, including heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf and disruptions to Asian economies reliant on regional energy imports.",

She referred to recent
American media reports.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, US President Donald Trump
is preparing a long-term blockade against Iran. Based on sources from
government officials, Trump is said to have instructed his advisers. The
aim is to maintain pressure on Iran’s economy, particularly oil exports,
until Tehran makes concessions.

According to information from the US portal Axios, new military
options against Iran are also being considered. On Wednesday (29/04),
Trump warned Tehran’s leadership to “act rationally soon” and agree to a
peace deal.

Iran is demanded to halt its nuclear programme, hand over around 400
kilograms of highly enriched uranium to the US, and reduce its regional
influence. It remains unclear when the blockade of Iranian ports will be
lifted.

Major pressure from the blockade

The Strait of Hormuz has become Iran’s main leverage tool in
negotiations. This strait is crucial for transporting oil and gas from
Persian Gulf countries and holds vital importance for the global
economy.

Since the war with Iran began two months ago, the number of ships
crossing the Strait of Hormuz has fallen by more than 95 per cent,
according to the UN.

In addition to oil and gas, supplies of fertiliser—essential for
developing countries—and petrochemical products have also been
disrupted, said the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih
Birol, on 30 April 2026 at a conference ahead of the high-level COP31
climate meeting in Antalya, Turkey. He assessed that his concerns about
the largest energy crisis in history due to the Iran conflict are
increasingly proving true.

The US itself has imposed a naval blockade against Iran to cut off
Tehran’s revenue from oil exports. In response, Iran demands that the US
lift the blockade of its ports and signals it will reopen the Strait of
Hormuz to international shipping traffic.

The Iranian state is highly dependent on oil exports. It is estimated
that around a third to 45 per cent of state revenue comes from the oil
and gas sector. Since the US has pressured shipping traffic in the
Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s oil exports have declined dramatically.

Oil production declines and state revenue shrinks

The US naval blockade has gradually disrupted Iran’s oil exports,
said senior analyst from data company Kpler, Homayoun Falakshahi, to DW.
Shipments have fallen significantly, while inventories have risen
rapidly.

He emphasised that Iran can only load oil if there are enough empty
tankers available and if those ships can actually leave the Persian
Gulf.

Iran is now forced to reduce production—a step it has often taken
previously due to sanctions. Other producers in the region, such as
Iraq, are also compelled to lower their output.

According to energy expert Dalgah Chatinoglu, Iran’s oil production
could drop by around one million barrels per day within a month,
approaching domestic consumption levels.

However, Iran still has around 170 million barrels of oil on ships
that passed through the Strait of Hormuz before the blockade, which
could support exports for two to three months.

In the short term, Tehran appears able to withstand the blockade. But
a long-term production halt could cause permanent damage, as production
facilities must be scaled down or even shut down.

Chatinoglu stressed that the technical consequences of stopping oil
fields are very serious—unused wells can dry up due to halted flow.
Whether this actually happens depends heavily on the intensity of the US
naval blockade.

At the same time, economic pressure continues to mount due to reduced
state revenue, while the government must still fund internal
expenditures such as salaries for security and military personnel.

Iran’s economy has long been affected by mismanagement, corruption,
and international sanctions. In 2025, average inflation is estimated at
around 51 per cent, and in 2026 it is projected to rise to around 69 per
cent. A prolonged blockade could exacerbate this crisis.

In response to the question of how long the US can maintain the naval
blockade, Fatemeh Aman said, “Maintaining a long-term blockade against
Iran requires substantial continuous military resources, operates in
legally uncertain territory, and carries political risks.”

Long-term restrictions on maritime traffic could also drag in other
countries, worsen tensions in the Persian Gulf, and impact global
trade—particularly for Asian economies heavily reliant on energy imports
from the region. “At that point, Washington must question whether the
pressure applied remains controllable or instead creates unwanted
problems.”
",

Provinces including West Java, DKI Jakarta, Banten, and Central Java have introduced these measures, often requiring a declaration of intent to transfer ownership in the future to maintain accurate vehicle records. This phased national initiative aims to boost tax compliance and revenue while streamlining processes for vehicle owners.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Several regions are beginning to provide
conveniences for owners of used vehicles in handling annual taxes. STNK
extensions now do not always require the previous owner’s ID, which has
often been an obstacle in the administrative process. Director of
Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of Korlantas Polri,
Brigjen Pol. Wibowo, stated that the purpose of this policy is to
address the controversy surrounding the requirement for the previous
vehicle owner’s ID, which frequently hinders tax payments. Although it
applies nationally, implementation is being carried out gradually by
each regional government. Here are the 6 provinces that have already
implemented it: The West Java Provincial Government has applied the
policy of paying motor vehicle taxes without the original owner’s ID
since 6 April 2026 through Circular Letter number 47/KU.03.02/Bapenda on
Annual Motor Vehicle Tax Payments Without the First Owner’s ID. Quoted
from the Jabarprov website, here are the requirements that West Java
residents need to bring when paying motor vehicle taxes that have not
yet been transferred: DKI Jakarta provides similar flexibility, but with
the condition of signing a declaration of willingness to transfer
ownership in 2027. This policy only applies to annual STNK extensions,
not including 5-year STNK extensions (plate replacement). “Through the
obligation to sign the declaration, the Provincial Government ensures
that the vehicle transfer process remains a priority to be completed in
the future. Thus, vehicle ownership data in DKI Jakarta remains accurate
and can support development planning as well as optimisation of regional
revenue,” stated the explanation from Bapenda DKI Jakarta. In Banten,
this programme applies from 1 May to 31 December 2026. Taxpayers must
still prepare a declaration letter as a commitment to carry out the
transfer. Quoted from the official Banten Province website, here are the
required documents to bring when handling motor vehicle taxes that have
not been transferred: Acting Head of Bapenda of Central Java Province,
Muhamad Masrofi, stated that motor vehicle owners must still include
several required documents, namely the original STNK, personal identity
card, and a vehicle ownership declaration. “The declaration contains a
commitment to carry out the transfer process in the following year, and
is part of vehicle administration improvement,” he said, quoted from the
Jatengprov website.
",

The decision, reached through community consensus and facilitated by local government, has sparked discussions on social media, with climbers lamenting the loss of a key natural tourism site while emphasising the need for environmental preservation.

Posts regarding the closure of the ascent to the Mount Halau-Halau
tourist site in Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency (HST) are widely discussed on
social media. A post including a flyer states that the permanent closure
of the Mount Halau-Halau ascent is based on the results of deliberations
by the villages of Juhu and Hinas Kiri, Batang Alai Timur Subdistrict.
It is noted that the decision takes effect from 1 May 2026, following
deliberations held at the Hinas Kiri Village Office. This has elicited
various responses from social media users on platforms such as Facebook
and Instagram, primarily questioning the permanent closure, its reasons,
and the veracity of the information. Regarding the circulating
information, the Head of Juhu Village, Abdul Dunduk, confirmed to
Banjarmasinpost.co.id that it is accurate. He explained that the meeting
agreeing on the closure of the Mount Besar Halau-Halau tourist site was
attended by community leaders and residents from the two villages, Juhu
and Hinas Kiri. “In this matter, the Village Government only facilitated
the meeting,” he said, as quoted from Banjarmasinpost. On the reasons
for the closure, the Head of Juhu Village generally stated that Mount
Halau-Halau, standing at 1,901 metres above sea level, is a sacred
mountain believed to be so since ancestral times. “We believe that
mountain is sacred from our ancestors until now and forever,” he
revealed. Meanwhile, Rama, an environmental activist who has climbed
Mount Halau-Halau, described the large mountain as one of HST and South
Kalimantan’s premier tourist attractions, sought by climbers for nature
ascents. “To date, Halau-Halau (the large mountain) remains the highest
peak in South Kalimantan, so this will have a significant impact on
climbers. Nevertheless, climbers should also maintain the natural
environment and avoid littering the mountain,” he explained. Personally,
Rama hopes for other ways to preserve the natural environment through
rules or regulations on climbing procedures that could be implemented
without closing the trail entirely.
",

S&P noted that the rate of production decline increased from
March and has been accelerating since May last year.

Meanwhile, the rise in cost burdens, which factored into the
manufacturing production decline in April, became the largest since
2022, driving the biggest price increase in 12.5 years.

S&P recorded input cost inflation reaching the highest level in
four years. Companies responded to the rise in input costs by sharply
increasing selling prices, the steepest since October 2013.

Manufacturers also slightly reduced purchasing activity in response
to the decline in output needs.

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG)
began trading in the green zone this morning on Monday (4 May 2026). The transaction value
reached Rp 596 billion, involving 6.47 billion shares in 63,706
transactions. Market capitalisation was recorded at Rp 12,495 trillion.
Just a few minutes after the market opened, the IHSG surged more than
1%. By 9:04 WIB, the IHSG had risen 77.18 points or 1.11% to 7,033.98.
The most actively traded stocks included GOTO, BBCA, BUMI, and BBRI.
Several domestic and international news items are expected to be the
main sentiments for trading in the Indonesian stock market. This week
opens with a series of data releases directly impacting key market
pulses, from domestic inflation and trade balance to US labour market
indicators. The direction of risky assets will heavily depend on whether
price pressures ease and whether the global economy remains strong
enough to withstand high interest rates. At the same time, high energy
prices and global supply chain disruptions keep cost pressures alive.
This situation leads market participants to hold positions while
awaiting certainty from incoming data one by one. The Central Statistics
Agency is scheduled to release March inflation and trade balance data on
Monday (4 May). Indonesia’s inflation is expected to rise monthly in
April 2026, partly due to a spike in non-subsidised fuel prices. The
market consensus gathered by CNBC Indonesia from 13 institutions
estimates that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2026 will see
monthly inflation of 0.43% (month-to-month/mtm) with a median annual
inflation of 2.72% (year-on-year/yoy). Today, S&P Global will also
announce Indonesia’s manufacturing activity for April 2026. The
Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) released by S&P Global last month
showed Indonesia’s PMI at 50.1 in March 2026. This figure is the lowest
since July 2025 or the last eight months. Although slowing, Indonesia’s
PMI remains in the expansion phase for eight consecutive months. The PMI
uses 50 as the starting point. Above 50 means the business world is in
an expansion phase, while below indicates contraction. The Central
Statistics Agency (BPS) will announce first-quarter 2026 economic growth
data on Tuesday (5 May 2026). This data is crucial in assessing how
resilient Indonesia’s economy is against global shocks in the early part
of the year. First-quarter 2026 economic growth is expected to remain
high due to the impact of Eid al-Fitr, Ramadan, and the long holiday. As
a note, Ramadan is the peak consumption period in Indonesia. In the
first quarter of 2025, Indonesia’s economy grew 4.87% year-on-year
(yoy), slowing from the same period the previous year and recording a
0.98% contraction compared to the fourth quarter of 2024
(quarter-to-quarter). Meanwhile, Asian stock markets moved variably at
the start of this week. South Korean stocks hit a new record, continuing
a historic monthly rally after April. Investors are still weighing
tensions between Iran and the United States (US), as well as US plans to
reopen shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. Citing CNBC
International, the US is still working to free ships stranded due to the
closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the Iran war. That
statement was made by US President Trump in his post on Truth Social on
Sunday (3 May 2026). That effort is called “Project Freedom”, which is
planned to start on Monday Middle East time. Its main focus is to
evacuate civilian ships flagged by countries not involved in the
conflict from the disputed waters so they can continue their business
activities freely and smoothly. “US military support for Project Freedom
will include guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 land and sea-based
aircraft, multi-domain uncrewed platforms, and 15,000 military
personnel,” said US Central Command shortly after Trump’s announcement,
cited on Monday (4 May 2026). For information, oil prices fell after the
“Project Freedom” announcement. The July West Texas Intermediate (WTI)
futures contract fell 0.59% to US$101.34 per barrel at 19:38 ET. The
Brent crude oil futures contract fell 0.27% to US$107.88 per barrel.
Previously, the Hang Seng Hong Kong index futures contract was at
25,992, compared to its last close at 25,776.53. Meanwhile, Australia’s
S&P/ASX 200 index slightly weakened. Markets in Japan and China are
closed for national holidays. US stock futures traded near flat on
Sunday night. S&P 500 futures rose 0.1% and Nasdaq 100 futures rose
0.1%. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 100 points,
or 0.2%. On Friday, both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rose to
new intraday and closing all-time highs. The broad market index rose
0.29%, while the tech-dominated Nasdaq rose 0.89%.

The government, through the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), has
announced the procedures for preliminary refunds of tax overpayments, or
restitusi. This is outlined in Ministerial Regulation No. 28 of 2026.
Under this regulation, the preliminary refund scheme has been made
faster, accompanied by screening based on taxpayer compliance. This PMK
officially came into effect on 1 May 2026. Through this policy, the
government aims to accelerate liquidity flows for highly compliant
taxpayers, allowing them to receive funds that are rightfully theirs
through a more efficient process without lengthy and complex initial
examinations. The latest regulation includes three main categories
eligible for these preliminary tax refunds. The first category covers
taxpayers with certain criteria known for their compliance reputation,
such as always submitting notifications on time and having no tax
arrears. Additionally, they must have financial statements audited by
public accountants with an unqualified opinion for three consecutive
years and have not committed any criminal acts in taxation for the past
five years. The second category is for taxpayers meeting specific
requirements based on limits for the overpayment amount submitted. For
individual taxpayers not engaged in business, this facility can be
granted directly, while for those engaged in business or free
professions, the limit is a maximum of Rp 100 million. For corporate
taxpayers, the opportunity is open if their business turnover reaches Rp
50 billion with a maximum overpayment of Rp 1 billion, which also
applies to taxable entrepreneurs with the same overpayment amount.
Meanwhile, for taxable entrepreneurs submitting VAT monthly
notifications with overpayments and sales of Rp 4.2 billion, the
overpayment is a maximum of Rp 1 billion for one tax period. The third
category rolls out the red carpet for low-risk taxable entrepreneurs,
including various strategic business entities. This group includes
companies whose shares are listed on the stock exchange, state-owned or
regional enterprises, as well as entrepreneurs designated as principal
customs partners or certified economic operators. Additionally,
manufacturing entrepreneurs, wholesale pharmaceutical traders, and
distributors of medical devices meeting certain technical requirements
are also included in the list eligible for accelerated tax refunds for
every tax period. The refund application process is fully digital, with
requests for taxpayer status under certain criteria submitted via the
DJP portal no later than 10 January. The Directorate General of Taxes is
given only 30 working days to issue a decision. If exceeded, the
application is automatically deemed accepted. For income tax (PPh)
refunds, the decision is issued within a maximum of three months. For
VAT (PPN), it is a maximum of one month from receipt of the application.
This PMK stipulates that if these deadlines are missed without a
decision, the application is also deemed approved. Under this
regulation, small-scale taxpayers, both individuals and corporations
with certain overpayment and turnover values, can still apply for
preliminary refunds without undergoing lengthy processes as before.
",

Consequently, the company is targeting global market
expansion through the broadening of export markets from these
facilities. SIG’s President Director, Indrieffouny Indra, stated that
the Rp1.4 trillion project represents a strategic step to enhance
factory utilisation and global market expansion amid excess production
capacity in the domestic market. “In addition to expanding penetration
into high-value export markets, the strengths of this portfolio also
reinforce SIG’s position in the global industry arena,” said
Indrieffouny in his statement from Jakarta, quoted on Monday, 4 May
2026. The completion of the project is marked by the issuance of the
Taking Over Certificate (TOC), which indicates that the project is
substantially acceptable based on the results of the work testing. SIG
stated that the infrastructure and systems in the project have met the
required technical standards, safety, and operational readiness. The
development of facilities in Tuban is designed to meet the demand for
exports of specialised cement types with international-class
specifications. The facilities include an increase in port capacity from
15,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) to 50,000 DWT, the construction of a new
integrated jetty trestle and jetty platform with existing facilities,
and a ship loader with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour. This initiative touches on the core tension in democratic relations between the state and citizens, underscoring the moral and critical nature of human rights advocacy amid ongoing threats, including suspicious deaths and arbitrary arrests.

Amid the ongoing trials of democracy, a discourse emerges that
invites serious reflection: the state, through the Ministry of Human
Rights, plans to form an advisory team to assess who qualifies as a
human rights activist. This idea, linked to statements by Minister of
Human Rights Natalius Pigai, is intended as an effort to ensure
protection is given to “legitimate human rights defenders.” However, it
is precisely at this point that a fundamental issue arises: who has the
right to determine who is a human rights defender? In a democratic
state, this question is not merely administrative but touches the core
of the relationship between the state and citizens. Human rights
activism, by its nature, arises from citizens’ critical awareness of
power. It is not a product of certification but a moral calling.
Therefore, when the state seeks to establish activist status, concerns
arise: is the state attempting to protect, or rather to control? These
concerns do not arise in a vacuum. Empirical data in Indonesia shows
that the position of activists—especially in the environmental and
indigenous peoples’ rights sectors—remains highly vulnerable. From this
number, hundreds of cases even proceed to criminal processes, placing
activists as defendants rather than defenders of public interest.
Furthermore, this trend shows no signs of abating. Data from Auriga
Nusantara records at least 133 instances of threats and lawsuits (SLAPP)
against environmental defenders in the period 2014–2023. Meanwhile,
civil society reports indicate that criminalisation is often carried out
through articles such as defamation or incitement—not through direct
violence, but through legal instruments. Concrete cases illustrate this
pattern. Environmental activist Daniel Frits Maurits Tangkilisan was
once imprisoned for criticism of environmental damage, before being
acquitted at the appeal level (Mongabay.co.id, 22 May 2024). On the
other hand, threats to activists do not always stop at legal processes.
Data shows that since 2018, at least 12 environmental defenders have
died in suspicious circumstances suspected to be related to their
advocacy activities. Even in a broader context, Amnesty International
Indonesia records that throughout 2025, there were 5,538 people
experiencing arbitrary arrests and violence while expressing opinions in
public (Amnesty.id, 29 December 2025).
",

The decision involves seven key members including Saudi Arabia and Russia, following the UAE's exit from the group, and comes as oil prices hit a four-year high above $125 per barrel, raising concerns over aviation fuel shortages and global inflation. This symbolic hike signals OPEC+'s readiness to boost supplies once conflicts subside, despite current logistical challenges and Russia's own production cuts due to Ukrainian drone attacks.

The OPEC+ group of oil-producing countries has agreed to increase its
production target by around 188,000 barrels per day in June 2026. This
decision marks the third consecutive monthly quota increase. The move is
being taken while conflicts in the Middle East continue to disrupt
global energy supplies. Reuters reports that seven countries have agreed
to the production increase. These countries consist of Saudi Arabia,
Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Oman. The United Arab
Emirates officially exits OPEC+ from 1 May 2026. The number of members
now stands at 21 countries, including Iran. Production levels have
previously been heavily influenced by these seven countries along with
the UAE. These countries previously had the capacity to increase
production. The situation has changed after distribution routes were
disrupted. Iran has also experienced a decline in exports. The decline
occurred after the United States imposed a blockade since April. A
Reuters source states that the 188,000 barrels per day production
increase is symbolic. Oil shipments have not yet returned to normal
while the conflict continues and the Strait of Hormuz has not fully
recovered. Supply disruptions have driven up global oil prices. Prices
have temporarily breached $125 per barrel in the US. This level is the
highest in the last four years. Analysts are beginning to predict the
risk of aviation fuel shortages within one to two months. Global
inflationary pressures are also rising in line with the increase in
energy prices. This production quota increase is nearly equivalent to
the previous month’s figure of 206,000 barrels per day. The figure has
been adjusted following the United Arab Emirates’ exit from OPEC+. This
step shows that OPEC+ is continuing its usual production approach. The
organisation is considered ready to increase supplies when the conflict
eases. Russia has also cut production. The cut occurred after Ukrainian
drone attacks damaged energy infrastructure.
",

The driver? The train consists need a
minimum distance of 500 metres if at a speed of only 60 km/h,” said Riza
when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

Riza assessed that the cause of the accident cannot be viewed
simplistically. He explained that long-distance train consists (KAJJ)
have significant weight and require long braking distances.

He also assessed that the driver had attempted to brake. This can be
seen from the collision impact that did not destroy the entire
consist.

“If there was no braking, it could have hit more than two to three
KRL trains,” he said.

Therefore, he emphasised that this accident more reflects issues with
operational systems and infrastructure rather than individual errors in
the field.

According to Riza, operationally, mixing long-distance train (KAJJ)
and KRL journeys on one track has high potential to cause accidents.
Differences in stopping patterns and speeds are crucial factors that
cannot be ignored.

He explained that the Argo Bromo Anggrek (ABA) train travelling from
Gambir to Cirebon has high speed and only stops at certain stations,
unlike the KRL which stops at almost every station.

According to him, this condition makes the potential for “overtaking”
unavoidable.
Fuel prices at private petrol stations in Indonesia are rising significantly due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly the US-Israel conflict with Iran, which has disrupted global oil supplies and increased crude oil costs. ITB Professor Tri Yuswidjajanto Zaenuri explains that this follows basic supply and demand economics, exacerbated by export restrictions from producer nations, affecting Indonesia's imports from Singapore. The government faces decisions on adjusting domestic prices, potentially increasing subsidies for subsidised fuel while allowing non-subsidised prices to rise, amid rumours of Pertamax reaching Rp 17,000 per litre.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Prices of non-subsidised fuel (BBM) at several
private petrol stations have begun to rise significantly. Editorial
observations indicate that diesel prices at BP and Vivo stations have
now reached Rp 30,890 per litre. This situation is inseparable from the
escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The conflict
involving the United States-Israel against Iran directly impacts the
global energy supply chain. Disruptions in crude oil deliveries have
naturally led to dwindling fuel stocks in various countries, forcing
retail prices at petrol pumps to surge. Tri Yuswidjajanto Zaenuri,
Professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and an expert in
fuels and lubricants, explains that this phenomenon is purely a matter
of economic law related to supply and demand. “If the supply happens to
decrease as it is now, while demand remains high, prices will certainly
rise. Internationally, most refineries are supplied with crude oil from
the Middle East,” said Yuswidjajanto to Kompas.com recently.
Furthermore, the man commonly referred to as Pak Yus elaborated that
production costs at refineries automatically swell with the higher price
of raw materials. “Now, the supply of petroleum is reduced because it’s
hindered by the US-Israel vs Iran war. Automatically, the price of
petroleum becomes more expensive. If the price of petroleum rises, then
the price of fuel produced by the refinery also becomes more expensive,”
said Yuswidjajanto. The situation is worsened by actions from several
producer countries that are beginning to restrict export taps to secure
their domestic reserves. This protectionist measure directly affects
Indonesia, which still relies on BBM imports from the Singapore market.
“Automatically, if China, for example, does not export, and it supplies
to Singapore among others, then fuel prices in Singapore rise as well.
We buy from Singapore, so our fuel prices rise too,” said Yuswidjajanto.
Now, the hot potato is in the government’s hands to determine domestic
price policies, whether to make adjustments or increase the subsidy
burden. “Now, it’s up to the government whether to follow the price
increase due to supply and demand law, or to hold the prices without
providing subsidies. It could also be that subsidised fuel prices don’t
rise, but non-subsidised ones do, to subsidise the subsidised fuel,” he
stated. Previously, there were rumours circulating that the price of
Pertamax (RON 92) would be hiked to Rp 17,000 per litre. Given the
unstable fluctuations in global crude oil prices, Yuswidjajanto assesses
that such a potential increase is very likely to occur.
",

This case follows a similar unsuccessful challenge by another former judge and involves ongoing probes into court officials and executives from PT Karabha Digdaya over land dispute bribes uncovered in a February sting operation.

Former Deputy Chief of the Depok District Court in West Java, Bambang
Setyawan, has filed a pre-trial application with the South Jakarta
District Court. The suspect in the alleged bribery and gratification
case is contesting the seizure actions carried out by the Corruption
Eradication Commission (KPK). “Case classification: whether or not the
implementation of coercive seizure measures is valid,” as quoted from
the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) website of the South Jakarta
District Court on Monday (4/5). Through his legal representatives,
Bambang registered the pre-trial application on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
The application is registered under case number: 60/Pid.Pra/2026/PN
JKT.SEL. The respondent is the KPK represented by its leadership.
“Hearing date: Monday, 11 May 2026. Agenda: reading of the application
(if all parties are present),” still quoted from the SIPP of the South
Jakarta District Court. When contacted separately, the KPK stated that
it respects the suspect’s right to test the law enforcement process
through a pre-trial hearing. “The KPK fully respects the legal steps
taken by the suspect through the pre-trial application. It is the right
of every citizen to examine the formal aspects of the law enforcement
process, and the KPK views it as part of the checks and balances
mechanism in the judicial system,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo
when contacted on Monday morning. The KPK is confident that the entire
investigation process has been conducted in accordance with applicable
procedural laws, both in determining the suspect and in carrying out the
coercive seizure that is the subject of the pre-trial. “Furthermore, the
KPK through its Legal Bureau will prepare and face this process openly
and respectfully towards the proceedings,” Budi stated. “We believe that
the pre-trial actually becomes an objective space for proof that every
action we take has a strong legal basis and can be accounted for to the
public,” he added. Previously, a similar challenge was filed by former
Chief of the Depok District Court, I Wayan Eka Mariarta. However, the
pre-trial application failed after sole judge Eman Sulaeman ruled that
it was not accepted. “Having deliberated, first, the pre-trial
application of the applicant is not accepted. Second, orders the
pre-trial applicant to pay the court costs incurred in this case
amounting to nil,” the judge said when reading the verdict in the
hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (20/4). In
addition to Bambang and I Wayan, the KPK is also prosecuting a court
clerk at the Depok District Court, Yohansyah Maruanaya, as a suspect in
the alleged bribery reception related to a land dispute. The case is
still at the investigation stage. Meanwhile, for the alleged bribe
givers, the KPK is prosecuting the President Director of PT Karabha
Digdaya (KD), Trisnadi Yulrisman, and Head of Corporate Legal at PT KD,
Berliana Tri Kusuma. The cases involving Trisnadi and Berliana have
already entered the court for examination and trial. For Bambang, the
KPK also charges him with the offence of gratification as regulated in
Article 12B of the Corruption Eradication Law (UU Tipikor). This case
was uncovered by the anti-corruption agency through a Raid Operation
(OTT) in the first week of February. During the investigation, the KPK
has examined numerous witnesses and conducted searches and seizures of
evidence.
",
