Students steal motorcycles

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Police in Banyumas regency arrested two students yesterday for allegedly stealing two motorbikes.

Police chief Lt. Col. Zaenal Abidin told The Jakarta Post that gangs of thieves, whose members are students, are usually "more dangerous" than ordinary criminals. "They are intellectually superior and they may convince other students to commit crimes," Abidin said.

The police have discovered that the suspects -- identified as Donny, 22, and Bambang, 23 -- are part of an 11-strong gang. The other nine are currently at large. Police managed to confiscate two motorbikes, which the students have modified, as evidence. (wah/swe)
