3-0 wins mark squash meet

JAKARTA (JP): Abundant 3-0 wins marked the first day of the 20th East Asian Squash Championships team event competitions at the Pertamina squash court in Simprug, South Jakarta, yesterday.

In the women's team event, Japan beat Indonesia 3-0; the Philippines whipped South Korea 3-0; and Hong Kong rout South Korea 3-0. Malaysia lost to Singapore 1-2.

In the men's team event, Hong Kong downed South Korea 3-0 and Malaysia pipped South Korea 3-0. Meanwhile, Singapore edged Japan 2-1 and the Philippines put aside Indonesia 2-1.

Today's fixtures: At 10.30 a.m., the women's team events pit Indonesia against the Philippines, and Singapore against Japan. At 6 p.m., Indonesia takes on Hong Kong and Singapore faces the Philippines. In the men's team event at 10.30 a.m., Indonesia entertains Singapore and Japan plays Malaysia. At 6 p.m., Indonesia tackles the Philippines and Japan tries to upset Hong Kong. (arf)
