Indecency in TV films From Pikiran Rakyat At 9 p.m. on Feb. 6, I watched a TV film aired by a private TV station. The story is set in the Indonesia of yore, during the Dutch colonial era with the main character being of Chinese origin. I was rather shocked by the indecency presented in several scenes of the TV film. Is it true, I then wondered, that Indonesian TV films are now so low in morality that the TV film I watched is simply one of many? Is this what we call progress in our TV films?

Eurico put under house arrest by court JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta District Court decided on Monday to change former East Timorese pro-Indonesia leader Eurico Guterres' arrest status from state arrest in Salemba Penitentiary, Central Jakarta, to house arrest. Chopper search suspended BANDUNG, West Java: The search to locate a crashed helicopter and its three crew members has been suspended after over a week of searching has proved futile. The NBell-412 helicopter went missing on Feb. 8. Head of search and rescue mission Agus Sukarno said on Monday that the 10-day search ended on Sunday. The team failed to find the helicopter along with the three onboard -- pilot Capt. Bobby Daud Ishak, co-pilot Sucahyo Wahyu, and technician Hendro Jatmiko.

Sewu reports surge in income JAKARTA (JP): Insurance company Sewu New York Life announced on Monday that it had recorded a 40 percent increase in its total premium income in 2000 to Rp 346 billion ($36.4 million) over the previous year. New individual policy sales also recorded an increase of 35 percent to Rp 129.6 billion last year compared to 1999, the company said in a statement.
