Amien should resign first

The People's Consultative Assembly represents the people of
this country. Amien Rais, as the Speaker of the Assembly can say
and do anything he likes, including organizing a special session.

However, when Amien suggested that President Abdurrahman "Gus
Dur" Wahid step down, he started to position himself as the
legislative leader to contradict Gus Dur, while, in fact, the
people (demonstrators) had been split into two groups: those who
support Gus Dur and the others who oppose him.

Since Amien has suggested to Gus Dur that he step down,
perhaps there is nothing wrong or it would be elegant for Amien
to resign first considering that Amien's legitimation has
decreased (minus Gus Dur's supporters).
