Indecency in TV films
Indecency in TV films
From Pikiran Rakyat
At 9 p.m. on Feb. 6, I watched a TV film aired by a private TV
station. The story is set in the Indonesia of yore, during the
Dutch colonial era with the main character being of Chinese
origin.
I was rather shocked by the indecency presented in several
scenes of the TV film. Is it true, I then wondered, that
Indonesian TV films are now so low in morality that the TV film I
watched is simply one of many? Is this what we call progress in
our TV films? Or is this an example of liberalism in everything?
It must be remembered that although a TV film is aired at
night millions of people watch it and that television must also
assume its edifying role in promoting the education of the
Indonesian people, particularly the young. If such TV films can
find easy access to TV stations, where will this lead our
society?
In this respect, the government agency in charge of censorship
must work harder. Both Indonesian and imported films must go
through proper censorship.
