Armed robbers flee with Rp 80m

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police detectives are searching for four men who robbed a construction project supervisor at gunpoint on Monday.

The supervisor, identified as Abidin, and his driver, Husin, were traveling on Jl. Pamulang in Ciputat, South Jakarta, after withdrawing Rp 80 million (about US$8,421) from the Bank Central Asia branch in Cipete, when four men on two Yamaha RX-King motorcycles surrounded their Kijang van at about 3:50 p.m.

Two of the men shot out the van's tires, and the other two seized the briefcase containing the money, which was meant to pay the workers at the construction site.

Abidin's son, Diman, said his 55-year-old father suffered minor slash wounds to his arm when he refused to hand over the briefcase.

The robbers fired a warning shot to disperse local residents who witnessed the robbery before making their escape. (07)
