Gulf Indonesia finds gas CALGARY (Reuters): Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd, an affiliate of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd, said on Tuesday that its Rayun-1 well in the South Jambi B production sharing contract area in Indonesia tested at a combined rate of 23.4 million cubic feet a day from two intervals. Gulf said the South Sumatra discovery was important because of its potential size and proximity to the Corridor Gas Project pipeline system now under construction.

Rupiah hits new record low as stocks continue to fall JAKARTA (JP): The rupiah and stock prices on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) touched new lows yesterday due to regional weaknesses, stockbrokers and dealers said. Currency dealers said the rupiah touched a new historic low of 3,980 against the U.S. dollar in the spot market yesterday before easing to 3,930/50 at the close in Jakarta. They said that the rupiah ended at 3,985 in Singapore and 3,920/45 in London.

His motorcycle was not found at the site. The body of M. Bank Servitia's marketing director Tarunodjojo Nusa said that bank's loan loss reserves rose by 30 percent to Rp 14.5 billion (US$4.02 million) as of September this year, from Rp 11 billion in the same period last year.

Bouraq airlines I have heard over the years many uncomplimentary things about Bouraq such that I felt it time to write and correct this. I have now traveled four times by Bouraq in the last three months, and have nothing but praise for the airline. Particularly I would mention two months ago my experience in Batam. This was at the height of the haze/smoke problem. The plane was due out at 3:55 p.m. The airport had been closed in the morning because of haze; it was again closed at 3:30 p.m.

Sudjana has issued a decree to raise the price of gas by 20 percent to Rp 385 (10 U.S. cents) and Rp 400 per cubic meter for industries and other institutional buyers. The head of the marketing division of the state-owned gas distributor Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), Hari Pratoyo, said the new price was effective as of Nov. 1.

New clinic for venereal diseases JAKARTA (JP): About 250 people, who have venereal diseases, were treated en mass at a recently opened clinic in the Kramat Jaya district of North Jakarta yesterday. The clinic, which was founded by the Peduli AIDS Institute and Karya Bakti Foundation, also tested patients' blood for HIV. Dr. Subagyo Partodihardjo from the foundation was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying yesterday that the clinic was scheduled to open 24 hours.

Govt to stop issuing forest permits JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Forestry will stop issuing new licenses to exploit forests next year, except for forests in Irian Jaya and East Timor, the ministry's secretary-general Oetomo said yesterday. Oetomo said the ministry would refuse all applications for new concessions except for those wanting to operate in the two provinces. "There will be no new timber estates except in Irian Jaya and East Timor," he said.
