British and Thai police join forces
BANGKOK (AFP): A team of British police is set to arrive in
Thailand to launch a joint effort to stamp out child prostitution
and sex tourism here, British officials said yesterday.
The embassy said four officers from Britain's Northumbria
police will be in Thailand from Friday until Dec. 13 to build
bilateral relationships and discuss setting up a police training
course in Thailand next year.
British police are also running courses on combating child
prostitution in the Philippines and Sri Lanka, where police from
India and Nepal will attend, an official said.
Northumbrian police boast experience in tackling paedophile
investigations and had officers available to travel to Bangkok.
