100 cars register for Langit Biru Wisata Rally

JAKARTA (JP): About 100 cars have registered to take part in the Langit Biru Wisata Rally around the capital on Dec. 7.

The organizer Pertamina, however, expects another 100 cars in the one-day touring rally.

The tour is being held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the state-owned oil company. For the tour, Pertamina will cooperate with the Jakarta Sportscar Fan club, auto racing promotion company Trendypromo Mandiri and the Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Motor Association.

The touring rally has become an annual tradition. Two hundred cars took part last year.

Pertamina headquarters on Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur will be the start and finish line.

The tour will start at 7 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Before the start a marching band will entertain the participants.

The drivers will have to cover a total distance of 180 kilometers divided into three sections of 60 kilometers. Each must be covered in three hours.

Participants will be allowed to rest at the Pulomas horsetrack before returning to Pertamina headquarters.

The drivers will be evaluated by their knowledge of roads in the capital as well as their knowledge of Jakarta.

The drivers are not allowed to drive more than 24 kilometers an hour.

Since the purpose of the tour is to remind the participants of the importance of clean air in Jakarta, the organizers have asked drivers to use either BBG (compressed natural gas), Elpiji (liquefied natural gas) or Super TT (unleaded gas).

Registration is open until tomorrow at Trendypromo Mandiri, Jl. Kesehatan 2/6, Bintaro, South Jakarta and Pertamina UPPDN III, Jl. Kramat Raya No. 59, Central Jakarta.

The fee per car of three people is Rp 100,000. This includes T-shirts, caps, morning snacks and a night-time entertainment show. The time and place of the night show has yet to be decided.

Four motorcycles will be awarded to the winner and three runners-up. Door prizes totaling Rp 30 million will be given to the losers. (lnt)
