PLN, city officials to be awarded
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta branch of Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) will present medals this year to the president of state-owned electricity firm PLN, a deputy governor and a former North Jakarta mayor.
The association's chairman, Tarman Azzam, said yesterday that three recipients "have developed a partnership" with journalists in the capital.
PLN president Djiteng Marsudi is to be the first person to receive the award as a representative of an institution, Tarman said.
Deputy Governor for Economics and Financial Affairs Harun Al Rasyid and former North Jakarta mayor Suprawito will be honored as individuals, he said.
The decision was made in a meeting on Nov. 20.
But Tarman, who has recently been elected as a city councilor for the ruling Golkar faction, gave no details about the "partnership" or the names of the other candidates.
Last year, the inaugural medals were awarded to city officials, namely the then governor Soerjadi Soedirdja and South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko.
Tarman said the annual awards were presented to individuals and institutions which have, at least in the past year -- among other things -- given reporters access to information.
"They have also played great roles in the development of the city, this association and Jakarta's press society."
The medals are to be handed over on Dec. 22 but the location has not been announced. (bsr)
