Asians express concern over China-Taiwan crisis HONG KONG (Reuter): Asian officials and political commentators voiced growing concerns yesterday over heightening China-Taiwan tensions and urged restraint on all sides. While China increased its military threats and the United States sent more warships to the region, most commentators and officials still believed the crisis would end peacefully. Some, however, felt the increasing aggressiveness was in danger of gaining unstoppable momentum.

Singer's killer at large JAKARTA (JP): The police are still hunting the killer of a local rock singer in East Jakarta. A detective from the Pulo Gadung police sub-precinct said yesterday that the police believe the killer is Slamet, a known hoodlum in the area. "The suspect has been involved in many car accessory thefts," he said. According to the singer's sister, Yuniarti, the 20-year-old Afrizal warned Slamet not to make trouble in the neighborhood. This apparently caused great offense.

Corruption From Jayakarta Mr. Julius C. Rumpak's letter in Jayakarta daily of Feb. 27 entitled "Findings of the State Audit Agency, State Debts" makes many interesting points. He says a civil servant who has committed corruption in a former post can be traced through his registration number and brought to court. I agree with Rumpak's suggestion that the money stolen be paid back by the corruptor. It is surely not impossible to take a corruptor to court.

Bomb in a parcel Recently there was shocking news in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra. An explosive parcel went off in a car on March 6, at 10 a.m., and wounded Rustam Effendy Panjaitan, 33. Minas sold with premium SINGAPORE (Reuter): U.S. refiner Chevron Corp has clinched two new contracts to sell two Japanese trading houses 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) each of Indonesian Minas crude for one year, close sources to the company said yesterday. They said the contract prices were at a premium of 40 U.S. cents and 45 cents per barrel over the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) on a free-on-board basis and would be effective from April 1996. The sources declined to identify the buyers.

At Changi airport, an immigration officer examined my passport, later he passed it to his colleague. The latter asked me whether my husband was a Singaporean, to which I said "yes". PT Jababeka gets US$50m syndicated loan JAKARTA (JP): Publicly-listed industrial estate company PT Kawasan Industri Jababeka signed an agreement yesterday on a syndicated loan of US$50 million with 15 banks. The Inter-Pacific Bank and Bank Bira, each of which will provide a loan of $4 million, act both as arrangers and lead managers of the loan syndication.
