Job seekers flood Bekasi

JAKARTA (JP): The number of new job seekers in Bekasi, 30 km
southeast of the city, has significantly increased after the Idul
Fitri holiday last month, according to data from the local
manpower ministry office.

The data shows that during the holiday season two weeks ago,
the number of new people looking for jobs was 112. Last week, it
had increased to 1,617.

The figure is in addition to the current total of 43,400 job
seekers in Bekasi, 12,000 of whom have been employed in various
companies through initiatives organized by the manpower ministry.

The head of the local office of the Manpower Ministry, Amar
Syamsurya, disclosed yesterday that there are currently 14,000
job opportunities available.

He added that he had sent 400 unemployed people to sit
entrance tests in nine local companies.

"Each of the four companies needs 30 workers on average,"
Syamsurya said. The four firms are textile, wood, electronics and
car factories.

There are 153,900 people working in 1,835 companies in the
area. (03)
