City to hold jet-ski competition JAKARTA (JP): A competition in the sport of jet-ski racing, little-known locally, will take place at the Horison Beach Hotel in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Sunday. The event, the second of its kind to be held in Indonesia, will feature two divisions, "Run Boat" and "Sport Boat", powered with engines ranging from 600 cubic centimeters to 1100 cc, organizer Ferdinand Tampubolon said yesterday.

Coral reefs endangered UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: A recent survey has found that 33 coral reefs in Indonesian waters have sustained massive damage. Oceanologist Anugrah Nontji of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences said here yesterday that only 6.5 percent of the country's coral reefs are still in "very good condition." Only 22.5 percent of Indonesia's reefs are classified as being in "good condition", while 43 percent are already damaged.

Total's new Indonesian deal PARIS (Opecna): French oil group Total has signed an agreement with Asamera, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gulf Canada Resources, to participate in a production-sharing contract in Indonesia, Total announced here Tuesday. The agreement gives total a 30 percent interest in the South Jambi "B" production-sharing contract area in southern Sumatera. The accord has been approved by the Indonesian national oil company, Pertamina, which owns 25 percent of the concession.

Eye witnesses said that a BCA bank office in the complex was damaged. There was speculation that the fire had been caused from a short circuit, but local police said the fire was still being investigated. No deaths were reported. Factory worker killed JAKARTA (JP): An 18-year-old worker at a West Jakarta oil stove factory was killed yesterday after a goods platform fell on him. Eyewitnesses said the victim, Asep, was moving equipment with other workers when the accident occurred. Asep died in hospital a few hours after being struck on the back by the platform. The platform fell after the cable suspending it snapped, witnesses said, adding that they did not know why the cable had snapped. (05)

"In addition, jet fuel for Central Java will be shipped from refineries in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan and Dumai, South Sumatra," Abda'oe said after inspecting the damage on Wednesday.

IDB conference due here JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will host the Islamic Development Bank's 20th annual conference, with ministers of finance and officials from 48 countries expected to attend.
