Int'l meeting on soils

JAKARTA (JP): Around 250 forestry experts from 40 countries will attend a five-day international conference on soils of the tropical forest ecosystem in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, beginning on Sunday.

Dady Ruhyat, Dean of the Forestry Institute of the Mulawarman University in Samarinda, said the meeting would discuss 200 working papers, with 60 of them being presented by their writers.

Ruhyat was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying that the ministers of education and culture and of forestry are also scheduled to address the meeting.

The conference will aim at finding the best method for forest soils utilization without harming the ecosystem, Ruhyat, the chairman of the organizing committee, added.(01)
