Hairdresser killed in Central Jakarta JAKARTA (JP): Police arrested one of two men accused of killing a hairdresser on the second floor of his salon on Jl. Rawa Sari, Cempaka Putih district, Central Jakarta yesterday. Central Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. M. Ibrahim said the suspects, identified as BN and IN, stabbed Jeffry, 35, with a sickle and a sword. "Jeffry tried to fight the men when they demanded his jewelry and money," Ibrahim said.

The panel of judges said in its verdict on Thursday that the five had manipulated value-added tax between 1993 and 1995. Defendant Agus Akbar, 31, director of an import company, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison and fined Rp 20 million (US$8,368), or five months in jail in lieu of the fine.

The Affordable Family Car (AFC), as it is known, is expected to go into production in Indonesia about mid-1998. Based on the Tercel, the AFC is a four-door sedan with a 1500cc engine. Toyota Motor Thailand is currently building about 3,000 cars a month but this is expected to rise to about 5,000 a month by the end of 1998.

Indocement's profits up JAKARTA (JP): PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Group announced yesterday a 20.9 percent increase in its net income to Rp 389.5 billion (US$165 million) in the first nine months of this year. The group's net revenue rose 10.7 percent during same period to Rp 3.1 trillion, a company statement said. The gross profit margin for the entire Prakarsa group increased from 36.6 percent to 37.3 percent, while the operating profit margin remained at 26 percent.
