8 to compete in SEA's richest meet
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Eight teams will compete in Southeast
Asia's richest soccer tournament, the Dunhill Cup, in Malaysia
next February, organizers said yesterday.
Bosnia-Herzegovina, China, Finland, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Singapore, Vietnam and Zimbabwe will compete for the US$100,000
first prize out of the $170,000 at stake, said Football
Association of Malaysia (FAM) Secretary-General Paul Mony Samuel.
"We want teams who are stronger than Malaysia to enable our
national team to get some valuable practice before the (World
Cup) qualifiers," Mony said of the tournament in Kuala Lumpur
from Feb. 13 to March 2.
Vietnam will host the next tournament in 1998.
