Jewelry designers invited to contest

JAKARTA (JP): Jewelry designers are invited to participate in the Diamonds-International Awards 1998, the most important international jewelry design competition.

Contestants should send their designs by Jan. 17, 1997 to the Diamond Information Center office, Jl. Proklamasi 46, Central Jakarta.

The designers must be Indonesian citizens and over 18 years old.

Winners will be flown to Paris in January 1998 to receive the trophy and prizes include a return Jakarta-Paris trip for two people with considerable exposure opportunities worldwide.

The preliminary judging sessions will be in four regions: America, Asia/Pacific, Europe/Africa/Middle East and the Indian sub-continent. Designs will be chosen in each region for the final judging in London in March.

The Diamonds-International Awards was founded by De Beers, the world's largest diamond mining company, in 1953.

It was set up to help raise standards of contemporary jewelry design.

The Diamond Information Center's manager, Nanny Budiman, said the Information Center recently held a workshop on diamond jewelry design. The workshop aimed to help people enter the contest. About 80 participants, including design students from the Bandung Institute of Technology and Trisakti University, took part in the workshop. (sim)
