Toyota's Asia car on sale in Thailand

TOKYO: Toyota will launch its AFC "Asia car" in Thailand on January 31 priced about US$14,500.

The Affordable Family Car (AFC), as it is known, is expected to go into production in Indonesia about mid-1998.

Based on the Tercel, the AFC is a four-door sedan with a 1500cc engine.

Toyota Motor Thailand is currently building about 3,000 cars a month but this is expected to rise to about 5,000 a month by the end of 1998.
