Tuna, mushroom exports blocked by EU barriers JAKARTA (JP): An official reported yesterday that Indonesia's exports of canned mushrooms and canned tuna to the European Union have been blocked by low quotas as well as high import tariffs. Chairman of the National Agency for Export Development Rudy Lengkong noted that the European Union (EU) has set an annual quota of only 4,000 tons for Indonesian exports of canned mushroom, as compared to a quota of 24,000 tons for Poland.

Foundation and business From Bisnis Indonesia Recently I noticed the advertisement of a particular foundation, which said that it has nothing to do with another foundation, despite the fact that their names are similar. The big advertisement must have cost a lot of money -- hundreds of millions of rupiah. My question, as a layman, is why should the foundations concerned use an advertisement to settle their case? In fact they could hold a press conference and put the records straight.

The loan facility, signed here this week, was arranged by Singapore branches of Barclays Bank Plc. and the Mitsubishi Bank Limited. RP capital mart gets aid MANILA (AFP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to lend up to US$150 million to the Philippines for a capital market development program. Acting Finance Secretary Romeo Bernardo said the document to extend a $100-million to $150-million loan would pave the way for working out conditions and the eventual release of the amount. The agreement comes after three years of consultations and studies, financed by the ADB and the U.S.

Sempati plane skids in Kendari JAKARTA: A Fokker-100 belonging to PT Sempati Airlines with 80 people aboard skidded off the runway at the Monginsidi Airport, Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi yesterday, the company said. Former Muhammadiyah leader dies JAKARTA (JP): Abdur Rozak Fachruddin, for 22 years the leader of the Muhammadiyah, the country's largest socio-educational organization, died in Jakarta yesterday from a long bout with several illnesses. He was 79 years old and is survived by his wife Hajjah Komariyah and seven children. He was buried later in the afternoon in Yogyakata. Fachruddin suffered from heart trouble, leukemia and vertigo.
