Dili to host Golden Gloves

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian amateur boxing association (Pertina) has confirmed that Dili, the capital of East Timor, will play host to the Golden Gloves national championships ater this year.

Carlos M. De Fatima, the executive chairman of Pertina's East Timor chapter, said in Dili yesterday that local boxers, hope to take full advantage of their home soil and win the overall championship title.

Fatima said that the country's youngest province, which will stage the tournament for the first time, had formed a team of eight. The boxers are undergoing a rigorous training stint at Dili.

A total of 64 boxers from 18 provinces have confirmed their entry, with West Java and East Timor parading the biggest teams, Antara reported. The Golden Gloves championships resumed in Ujungpandang last year after a four-year lapse. (amd)
