Top amateur boxers get cash bonuses
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian amateur boxing association
(Pertina) will award cash bonuses to six national boxers for
excellent performances in their last three outings.
Pertina's secretary general, Didiet Soedijoto, said yesterday
that chairman Paul Toding is expected to present the bonuses
today. The national boxing team has just come back from its trip
to Karachi, New Delhi and Chiang Mai.
The team included junior flyweight Hermensen Ballo, flyweights
Rachman Kili-kili and La Paene, featherweight Antonius Johni,
lightweight Sonny Rambing and welterweight Joko Suryono.
"The cash prizes are just a token of our gratitude for their
commendable performances," Didiet said, without disclosing the
amount of money given to each pugilist.
"Giving cash bonuses is the way we thank them. We cannot
provide them with more, such as jobs," said Didiet.
Asian Games bronze medalist Hermensen rode on his success in
the King's Cup in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and won the gold medal.
He previously took the silver in Karachi.
Rachman fought gamely in Chiang Mai but finally fell to home
favorite Pramuansak Phosuwan. Rachman earned only a bronze in
Karachi.
The other four brought home a bronze apiece from an
international boxing tournament in New Delhi.
The six boxers were groomed by Ferry Moniaga for December's
Southeast Asian Games in Chiang Mai. (amd)
