Travel agents warned
JAKARTA (JP): The government is threatening to cancel the
licenses of more than 700 travel agents in Indonesia for limiting
their operations to the sale of airline tickets, an official
says.
"About 40 percent of the 1,769 travel agents in Indonesia
merely sell airline tickets, instead of offering full travel
services. We will revoke their licenses if they do not remedy
this," Azhari Abdullah, director of travel agent supervision of
the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications, said
yesterday.
Azhari said that the government had recently revoked the
permits of 12 travel agents in North Sumatra for the same reason.
He did not reveal whether the ministry had set a deadline for
recalcitrant travel agents to clean up their acts. (hdj)
