Museum staff face jail terms over theft JAKARTA (JP): A state prosecutor asked the Central Jakarta District Court yesterday to sentence two National Museum employees to three and four years imprisonment for their alleged roles in the theft of 25 paintings. Bambang Widoyono, 38 and Supandi, 41, who both worked in the museum's conservation department, were charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code for conspiring to steal.

Prison escapee faces 20 years' imprisonment BOGOR (JP): A prosecutor demanded the Bogor District Court yesterday to sentence Erling Doli Wijaya alias Mikel, who escaped from his detention cell almost four weeks ago, to 20 years in prison for his involvement in a robbery and murder on the Jagorawi toll road on Oct. 11 last year. Prosecutor Andi Rachman Asbar told the court that Mikel was guilty of violating Chapter 365, Article 4, of the Criminal Code concerning robbery.

Pertamina plans to take over Caltex oil field in Riau JAKARTA (JP): State oil firm Pertamina has announced plans to take over the Coastal Plain Pakanbaru (CPP) field in Riau from PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia. Pertamina president Faisal Abda'oe said at a hearing with the House of Representatives's Commission for mines and energy yesterday that he had sent a letter to Caltex saying Pertamina would take over and operate the field from Caltex after its contract expired in 2001.

The other day I went to the store to see what kind of merchandise they carried. I was happy to browse around and look at the products on the shelves. Man tried in investor scam JAKARTA (JP): A West Jakarta man was charged at the Central Jakarta District Court yesterday for defrauding an investor of Rp 72 million (about US$27,600). Max Gondo Setiawan, 52, is being tried under Article 378 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum of four years imprisonment. Prosecutor Tony Spontana said Max solicited funds to finance a chemical company with the promise of a 10 percent return on the investment.

KL tin rises on LME KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): Malaysia's spot tin price rose 10 cents to 13.87 ringgit ($5.27) a kg yesterday in reaction to a weak ringgit and a higher close on the London Metal Exchange (LME) on Friday, traders said. The resistance level for the price was seen at 14 ringgit next, said traders. "The market is still strong because of the currency and was helped by the LME," said a trader. The local price was at a premium of $55 with Friday's LME.
