Municipality urges discounts for kids
JAKARTA (JP): The municipality urged owners of amusement centers, book and toy stores and health centers, as well as operators of land, air and water transportation yesterday to give discounts to children on Wednesday and Thursday.
Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said the appeal was made in conjunction with the commemoration of National Children's Day on Wednesday (July 23).
"The success of this appeal will depend on their conscience. I hope this appeal will move them," Surjadi said at City Hall.
The governor signed the appeal on July 16, but it was only publicized by the city's public relations department yesterday.
Owners of recreational parks and amusement centers, including theaters, the Ragunan Zoo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, SeaWorld and Ancol, are also urged to give discounts to children, who want to watch performances on Wednesday and Thursday.
"The purpose of giving discounts is to show our love and attention to children and to help improve their knowledge and stimulate their creativity," Surjadi said.
Hospitals, community health centers, dentists, medical specialists and drug stores are among those urged to participate in the commemoration of National Children's Day as well.
Surjadi said discounts could be given to unborn children and to those up to 15 years old.
"Discounts can be given in the form of free medical treatment for children and discounts on prescription drugs," Surjadi said.
By giving discounts to children's medical treatment and medicine, people support children's welfare and health, he added.
In his appeal, Surjadi urged operators of land, air and water transportation to give discounts to children traveling on July 23 and July 24.
"The discounts will show our social awareness and care of Indonesian children," he said. (ste/04)
