Radio station to be established
FAKFAK, Irian Jaya: The state-owned Indonesian Broadcasting System (RRI) is planning to build a 10-KWH radio broadcasting station this fiscal year in Pasir Putih village, 10 km east of here.
The project, to be funded by the Japanese government, was estimated to cost Rp 6 billion, Fakfak RRI station chief Bahrun Siregar was quoted by Antara as saying here yesterday.
Siregar said a team from the Film, Television and Radio Directorate General and two Japanese technicians had surveyed the site for the station.
He said the local government had set aside a 6.2 hectare site, which is to contain an 100-meter high antenna, a building for a diesel generator and several staff houses. The station would use an 100-watt FM stereo radio transmitter.
Siregar said the old local radio station would be maintained for use in emergencies, particularly if the new station had technical problems.
From next month, he said, people in Fakfak, Kaimana and Mimika could expect to receive news and other information from the station.
