Ramayana opens new store JAKARTA (JP): Publicly listed PT Ramayana Lestari Sentosa, the owner of Ramayana department stores, has opened a retail outlet in Plaza Cengkareng, West Jakarta. The new outlet, located on a 13,000-square-meter plot, was opened Friday, and is Ramayana's 57th store. The publicly listed Ramayana was aiming to open several more outlets for its middle income-bracket customers across the country this year, the company said. (das)

Police seized five truckloads of car spares, including brake shoes, bolts and valves, which were to be sold for at least Rp 50 million. The parts were for several vehicle brands. Road accidents kill 1,000 BANDUNG: Road accidents in West Java killed 1,032 people in the first half of the year, police said yesterday. West Java's police spokesman, Lt. Col. Istanto, said Tuesday there were 1,352 accidents in the province over this period. Over the same period 989 people were seriously injured in road accidents, while 1,106 suffered minor injuries. He said the number of accidents was well down last year's huge 6,394 accidents.

Kalimantan: A court convicted two men Saturday for their involvement in the May 23 election riot here, Antara reported Rade'i bin Mutasi, 30, was found guilty of carrying weapons illegally, while Ratiman, 33, who was tried separately, was found guilty of looting a shop during the riot which claimed 123 lives. Mutasi was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and Ratiman to two and a half months.

National Land Agency to be computerized BANDUNG (JP): The National Land Agency (BPN) will computerize its data processing to improve poor service that has often been blamed for disputes over land ownership. The agency has linked up with the Spanish government and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to implement the Land Office Computerization project, agency officials said over the weekend.
