PT Dragages gives quality service

Meeting customer demand with ever-improving production standards is how best to describe the current track record of PT Dragages Indonesia.

The most visible manifestation of this sky-high performance is the recent delivery of four of the 11 towers in the Taman Rasuna project.

Company president Jacques Pelletier says: "This project is exceptionally located and certainly the first of its size and quality in the center of Jakarta.

"It is the flagship realization of Dragages in Indonesia and our best marketing tool for the years to come."

Established in mid-1995, the company had 343 employees at the end of that year. It now has more than 500.

To cope with expansion 1996 was primarily a year of consolidation.

Dragages confirmed its procedures and strengthened its organization in all departments, especially with regard to plant, safety and quality assurance. This has been recognized by the company being certified to ISO 9001 standard for design and build operation.

Another success has been the promotion of local staff. Each of the 11 towers in the project is now being managed by an Indonesian senior engineer.

The development of a strong partnership with established contractor Total Bangun Persada was another feature of 1996.

It was born of the realization that with projects becoming increasingly sophisticated and involving more and more complex technology it was necessary to have strong partnerships between foreign expertise and local contractors.

Dragages appreciates that it must be Indonesians that remain the main force behind meeting the development needs of Indonesia.

Pelletier believes this will benefit both the company and its clients.

"At a moment when developers are constantly looking for more and more efficiency, better quality and shorter construction time, I believe that this (partnership) approach ... is the most appropriate way to meet our clients' needs," he said.

He is confident that as clients recognize the quality of Dragages Indonesia's work new orders and further expansion will continue in the months to come.
