Infantrymen told to be vigilant

JAKARTA (JP): Infantry I Brigade Commander Col. Tri Tamtomo urged the city's infantrymen to improve their vigilance so as to enable them to anticipate promptly any disturbances.

Tamtomo said Saturday that the next major events that would require great attention, were the 19th Sea Games in October and the General Assembly of the People's Consultative Assembly in March 1998.

"The infantrymen can improve their vigilance through continuous practice," he said at a ceremony inducting Maj. Hary Mulyono as the Infantry 202/Tajimalela Battalion Commander, replacing Maj. Maryanto in Bekasi.

Tamtomo also said that members of the Infantry 202/Tajimalela Battalion, which constituted one of the Infantry I Brigade's strike squads, must be capable of reading developments in their surroundings, understanding their superiors' orders clearly and translating these into action immediately.

He said that professionalism was crucial to ensure there were no violations of procedure. (hhr)
