Tomen to expand plant TOKYO (AFP): Japanese trading house Tomen Corp. announced yesterday plans for its Indonesian styrene monomer venture to invest US$150 million on tripling production over the next two and a half years. The company said the joint venture, PT Styrindo Mono Indonesia, would build a new plant with a production capacity of 200,000 tons a year.

7 killed in road mishap CIREBON, West Java: Six passengers of a bus and a truck driver assistant have been killed, and five other people seriously injured, in a traffic accident in Indramayu, on Thursday. A local police officer told Antara that the accident occurred in the vicinity of Lohbener village. The truck en route from Cirebon to Jakarta was moving at a high speed, swerved, scraped a becak (rickshaw) and then rammed into the back of the parked passenger bus.

Aneka Tambang records 115% rise in net profit JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned general mining company PT Aneka Tambang recorded a 115.3 percent increase in its net profit to Rp 21.5 billion (US$9.5 million) last year from Rp 10 billion in 1993. The company's president, Darmoko Slamet, said at a hearing with the House Mines and Manufacturing Commission yesterday that his company's total assets reached Rp 666.6 billion as of last December, an increase of 26 percent from December 1993.

Three tourists die in Bali DENPASAR, Bali: Three foreign tourists died here, on separate occasions, three days in a row this week. Dr. Made Maker, head of the Denpasar Hospital morgue, said Kinosita Ayoko, a 79-year-old Japanese tourist, was found dead in the bathroom of a hotel in Nusa Dua. The cause of deaths of the two other foreigners, a 36-year-old tourist from France, known only as Daniel, and Krie Deman Rolf, 51, of Germany, were still under police investigation.

Manila registers deficit MANILA (AFP): The Philippines registered a US$645-million balance of payments deficit in the three months to March from a surplus of $895 million in the same period last year, the Central Bank said yesterday. Officials attributed the shortfall to a higher current account deficit of $1.1 billion from January to March, from $712 million last year. Imports for the quarter totaled $5.6 billion, with exports worth $3.7 billion, the figures showed.
