Newly appointed NBI chief dies
MANILA (Reuter): The chief of the Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation, who was appointed only a week ago, died of a heart attack yesterday, a Manila hospital spokesman said.
NBI Director Antonio Aragon, 64, was taken to hospital on Thursday night after suffering chest pains following a meeting with president Fidel Ramos at the presidential palace.
Aragon had reopened the investigation into the gruesome murders of three members of the Vizconde family in 1991 after a new witness surfaced to implicate eight scions of prominent families, including a son of a senator, in the crime.
Aragon served the NBI for 37 years and had been appointed as head of the agency on June 17.
