One year sought for ex-officer
JAKARTA (JP): A prosecutor at the South Jakarta district court is seeking a one year sentence for a retired army colonel being tried on charges of possessing firearms without a permit.
The 64-year-old Lt. Col. (ret.) Akkas Alimuddin has been charged with illegal possession of two FN-36 pistols of 9 millimeter caliber, five boxes of ammunition and another 30 bullets.
Prosecutor Eko Siwi Sriyani said Monday that when Alimuddin retired from the Armed Forces in 1987 he failed to return the arms as required by law.
Sriyani insisted that there is strong evidence that the accused wanted the firearms for his personal use.
"I demand that the judge sentence the defendant to one year imprisonment because he has violated Article 1 of Emergency Law No. 12," she said. (29)
