RI could get stake in S'pore-Japan trade pact SINGAPORE (Dow Jones): Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong Thursday raised the possibility of including Indonesia's industrial Batam island in a proposed bilateral trade agreement between Singapore and Japan. Nineteen pirate attacks were recorded in Indonesia in the first three months of this year, the International Maritime Bureau said in its quarterly report which was obtained on Thursday. There were 18 cases during the same period in 1999, and 10 in 1998.

Qantas flies into Dili DILI (AP): Qantas Airways Ltd. became the second Australian airline to inaugurate services to East Timor Thursday, but competition on the lucrative route linking Dili with Darwin hasn't resulted in better prices for travelers. The airline said it will fly into Dili six times a week. Both Qantas and its competitor on the route, Air North, charge A$266-A$500 for a return ticket on the 90-minute flight. Neither carrier has any plans to reduce fares.
