Foreigners arrested on sodomy charges

MEDAN: Local police arrested two foreigners on Thursday on charges of sodomizing underaged boys.

Police arrested the two men -- Rendal Mardet, 29, and Manfred H.X Has, 56, -- during a raid on the house they were renting in the Rivera Tanjung Morawa housing complex.

Hundreds of photos of naked boys were confiscated during the raid.

North Sumatra Police spokesman Lt. Col. Amrin Karim said four boys so far had come forward to report the men. He added, however, that several dozen boys between the ages of 10 and 14 were believed to have been victimized by the men.

According to testimony from the victims, the two men usually lured young boys from nearby swimming pools and promised them toys if they accompanied them home.

Antara reported that Rendal was an American, and Manfred worked as an English teacher in Medan.
