Hitachi to export 500 kV GCB to U.S.

JP/msa

JAKARTA (JP): PT Hitachi Power System Indonesia completed on Thursday testing of its 500 kilovolts Gas Circuit Breakers (GCB), the largest ever manufactured by the company.

The company said that the GCB would be exported to the United States, making Indonesia the only country in Southeast Asia which can manufacture such sophisticated equipment.

The company said that GCBs are used in substations to protect expensive electrical transmission equipment and power lines in case of short circuits or other current abnormalities.

The picture shows workers preparing the equipment before being tested.

The company sells its power equipment to Japan, Guam, Peru, Singapore and Saudi Arabia, as well as local companies such as PT Semen Cibinong and state electricity company PLN.

PT Hitachi Power System Indonesia, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., also produces gas insulated and metal clad switchgear, circuit breakers and lightning arresters in its plant in Bekasi, near Jakarta. (07)
