Two men charged with falsifying tax invoice JAKARTA (JP): A prosecutor brought two men to court yesterday charging them with embezzling more than Rp 58 billion in state funds by using counterfeit value-added tax invoices to obtain tax refunds over a period of three years. Prosecutor R. Moekiat told the Central Jakarta District Court that Baharuddin Umar and Tonny Effendy together with two others had counterfeited value-added tax invoices to get tax refunds.

Asian stock markets end mixed TOKYO (Agencies): Asian stock markets were mixed yesterday as a rally on Wall Street was offset by heightening tension between China and Taiwan. Hong Kong's Hang Seng regained some of the ground it lost on Monday and Japanese share prices rebounded with the key market barometer closing 0.8 percent higher as the recovery on Wall Street revived buying sentiment. The key Hang Seng index rose 205.00 points to end at 10,602.45.

JSX rebounds three percent JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) yesterday saw a recovery of 3 percent with trading dominated by local buying on big capital stocks, following a strong overnight rebound on Wall Street and positive regional market sentiment. The JSX composite index jumped 16.32 points to close at 560.86 points after hitting a high of 565.37 points in morning trading. Turnover was 81.16 million shares worth Rp 292.8 billion (US$125.9 million).

Paiton Energy bonds rated MELBOURNE (Reuter): Standard & Poor's Corp said it has assigned a BBB rating to Indonesia's Paiton Energy Funding BV's US$180 million senior secured bonds due 2014. The ratings agency the outlook for the group was stable. The bonds will be guaranteed by PT Paiton Energy Co, a limited liability Indonesian established to develop, construct, own and operate a US$2.5 billion 1,230 megawatts coal-fired power plant located in East Java, Indonesia, S&P said.

Riots continue in Irian copper town JAKARTA (JP): The copper town of Timika in Irian Jaya was beset by further riots yesterday with damage inflicted on the town's airport and facilities owned by PT Freeport Indonesia, the giant American mining company. Scavenger brutally killed JAKARTA (JP): A scavenger who was used to operate at the Cilincing garbage dump in North Jakarta was found dead on Monday night with several stab wounds to his body and head. 'Suara Pembaruan' staff file lawsuit JAKARTA (JP): Journalists at Suara Pembaruan, one of Indonesia's oldest and leading newspapers, have accused its general manager and publisher of libeling them by wiping their names from the daily's mast head. Seven journalists, who have worked for the newspaper for between seven and 18 years, blamed General Manager Albert Hasibuan and PT Media Interaksi Utama, the publishing company, for the libel.
